Hibiscus tea is the star of this non-alcoholic cocktail that takes sour to the next level, combining fresh grapefruit juice and lime for a bitter, puckering punch. Agave nectar and egg white provide some balance and texture, while our New Orleans bitters— with bright flavors of anise, tart cherry, hibiscus, and rosehips—are the perfect complement to tie it all together. Visually striking, this is definitely a cocktail to serve when you want to impress!
Hibiscus Sour (Non-Alcoholic Cocktail Recipe)
Non-Alcoholic Cocktail / Low-Alcohol / Zero Proof / Mocktail
Hibiscus tea, grapefruit juice, lime, and New Orleans bitters take sour to the next level.
2 1/2 ounces hibiscus tea, chilled
3/4 ounce grapefruit juice, freshly squeezed
3/4 ounce lime juice, freshly squeezed
1/2 ounce agave nectar
5 dashes All The Bitter New Orleans bitters
1 egg white (optional)
Brew a cup of hibiscus tea, then chill.
Add all ingredients to a cocktail shaker and (if using egg white) "dry shake" without ice for 20 seconds.
Add ice, shake again until chilled, and double strain into a coupe glass.
Egg whites, which add a velvety texture to this drink, can be replaced with chickpea water (also called aquafaba) for a vegan cocktail. There are also several products that can be used to this effect, such as Fee Brothers Fee Foam.
Agave nectar can be replaced with simple syrup here, but like the egg white, it adds nice texture and flavor.
MAKE IT MINDFULLY LOW ALCOHOL
Reduce the hibiscus to 1.5 ounces and add 1 ounce of blanco or reposado tequila for a deliciously responsible tequila sour.
